DJ Drama‘s resume is miles long. The man has done work with everyone in the game-from Lil Wayne to New up and Troy Ave, to everyone in between. It seems Atlantic Records has recognized Drama’s talents and knowledge of the game, and has named him newest member of their A&R team. He will oversee new artists’ projects, search for new artists to sign, and allow Atlantic artists to use his Atlanta studio, Mean Streets Studio.
In a statement issued by Atlantic’s Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, he explains why they went with Dj Drama.
”One of the most accomplished DJs and mixtape masters, DJ Drama brings brilliant instincts and consummate skills to our A&R team. A hugely influential force in the hip-hop community, I know he’ll be a tremendous asset in signing and developing artists and making amazing records.”
Drama, real name Tyree Simmons, explains his excitement for his new role at the label.
“My first two albums as an artist were on Atlantic. And I’m now looking forward to working with Craig and Julie [Atlantic chairman/COO Greenwald] in a new capacity, helping them break the label’s next crop of amazing talent.”
