Mr. Money Mayweather’s next fight is set and it will be for free! That’s right reports are coming out that Mayweather will fight Andre Berto (who?) this September not on Showtime but on CBS. Berto, who isn’t that well known, is 30-3 with 20 knockouts! Here is the report from Joey Sinatra and the Boxing Globe:
It seems to be almost confirmed that Floydwill enter the ring on September 12th vs Andre Berto. The fight will be aired on CBS, and not on the pay per view like most of Money Mayweather’s fights.
Mayweather will still get paid what he normally get paid per his 6 fight contract with Showtime which is around $35 million.
How and why Showtime is picking up the tab and/or payingFloyd for a fight on CBS is beyond me, but it seems to be confirmed by a few different sources. Michael Woods at the Sweet Science is the main guy reporting this, but he also states that he contact Showtime, Berto, and Swanson Communications and they all gave him no response.
This would be Mayweather’s 49th fight, and a win would set him up for him attempting to go 50 and 0. That 50th fight might be the another big pay per view fight for a giant cash out before Mayweather retires.
Al Haymon and his PBC company are behind the promotions of this fight, and it appears the matching of Berto vs Mayweather.
According to BoxRec this would be the worst opponent Mayweather has faced since his 2003 bout vs Victoriano Sosa. Wow!
Berto aka “The Best” is 31 years old with a record of 30-3 with 23 wins by KO. His last fight was in March when he defeated Josesito Lopez.
