A few months back, T.I. revealed the title of his upcoming LP to be Trap’s Open, an album he described as the “unapologetically gangsta” sequel to Paperwork, and the second installment in a planned trilogy. While interviewing for his upcoming role in Ant Man, Tip quietly revealed a change in the title of the album, which will now be called The Dime Trap.
It seems the concept of the LP will remain the same, as the rapper explained the LP would be a return to the grittier street sound of his breakthrough project.
“It’s going to be an extension or a continuation of the vibe from Trap Muzik,” he said. “I feel like, when you’ve done hits like “Whatever You Like” and “Dead and Gone,” when you do those mainstream kind of “Blurred Lines”-ish kind of records, you don’t go and try to top “Blurred Lines.” You just come to a whole new element, bring it back down and build the process back over again. I’m breaking it all down, back to the element of where my music first began to interest people, and build it all over again.
Tip has yet to announce a release date for the project, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he dropped it before the year’s out.
